Ian has written an update. He has been running around again meeting new teachers, sponsors and getting ready for BOWENSTOCK. Time is getting closer for Sunday Sept 10th. for those that would like an update on LEEP happenings…..
I have been meeting with principals, teachers, and organizations and making some great contacts. We are gearing up for a great year! (Cda, Murray Lasaign, Mitchell, and several schools that work with Caren Putzu from Communities in schools).
I made a great contact with
Joyce Nesmith from “Beyond Our Walls”. Her organization works to get programs like ours into the schools. She is imbedded in 16 schools in North Charleston. She is very excited about our partnership. She will be a great resource.
I AM GOING TO NEED VOLUNTEERS TO HELP WITH CLASSES!
I met with the science Coordinator for all of Charleston County, Tamara Kirshtein. She is “super cool”. Andy Cohen and I are finishing work on the teachers manual and she will review it. She also agreed to put me in front of all the Science liasons at her upcoming meetings.
I have met with
CIty Storm Drains and they will be doing a 15 minute presentation with modules and displays for our Water Cycle class. Charleston Water Systems, The Sustainability Institute, Noisette, and others have also agreed to help out.
I met with the Earthfare employees at West Ashley and Mt. Pleasant. Great folks, all willing to help and volunteer with various expertise. Thanks to Kim Ortego for making the arrangements.
Kahn (Earthfare Employee extrodinair), Regina (Elementary teacher superwoman), Sandra (Multi-talented Chairman), Farrah (Organic Process) and I met at Fox Music to sand the bus down in the heat on Saturday and Monday. I was alone on Thursday. YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE THE COOL PEOPLE WE HAVE HELPING THIS ORGANIZATION! Charles Fox and his crew had already taped it up but had some problems with weather. The bus is almost ready to go!
Dr. Droge, author of “your Intellegence Make Over” (A great book on accelerated learning techniques), and I spoke by phone this week. He was an police officer in the NY Bronx with 3 kids when he decided to go back to school. He ended up going to Harvard and graduating with straight A’s and went on to teach as a University professor for 25 years. I read his book last year and met with him several times (He lives in Charleston. He sat through one of my classes at CDA.

I have been working on a mini processor for bio-diesel that we will be able to use in the schools.
Tomorrow, I will play for “Chicks with Checks”. This is an organization of lady’s that get together for social events and write checks to non-profit organizations
. I offered to play solo sax for free at thier upcoming events Dee Norton Children Center and September 21 at Locks of Love at DI Salon. I found out the organization was run by my friend Anne Newell who has been involved with some entreprenueral endeavors of the past.
Diana has been the best thing to happen to LEEP. She has come though so many times I have lost count. She gets things done before I have the opportunity to ask for them. We cannot send her enough love.
