A little rest, a lot of cold, and a new boat!

My plan is to come from the Saluda Reservoir in Greenville on a new boat, an Eclipse, using gear that was given to me, including new paddles and shoes. I’ll cross several dams, camping in Greenwood State Park on the Heritage Corridor. If you are in the area, the Pickens Museum is worth a visit. I’ll then continue on to Region 2 of the corridor to Lake Greenwood in Lawrence County. Lawrence County was named after Henry Lawrence, and is where President Andrew Johnson is known to have lived as a tailor. Nearby is the town of Ninety Six, which began as a Native American deerskin trade town established in the early 1700’s. It became a British outpost and was attacked by Nathaniel Green, who claimed victory, then retreated from the British. Eventually, the British abandoned the area. Today was a rest day, but with the support of my ground team I was able to get back into Greenville to pick up a brand new boat from our friends at Confluence/Perception who are sponsors on our Web of Water trip. I also camped out alone last night after a long day of paddling. Not to be a wimp, but the cold front moving through the upstate made it one of the coldest nights I can remember. Tomorrow I head through land rich in revolutionary war history and scattered with dams giving power to communities all throughout the Piedmont region.
