Watershed

A watershed is an area of land that catches rain or snow and drains it into marshes, streams, rivers, lakes or groundwater. Humans rely on watersheds for drinking water and irrigation and animals rely on them for food and shelter. Our homes, communities, cities and towns all make up watersheds and are a part of what can be called a watershed community. Watersheds come in all shapes and sizes ranging from a few acres to millions and millions of square miles. It is important to understand that the watershed where you live is a unique place and your everyday activities can impact the natural resources and upset your way of life.
