So I found some free time in my life and wanted to dedicate it to a good cause.  I did my research and discovered L.E.E.P., the Lowcountry Environmental Education Program.  Nice…..nothing’s cooler than nature and why not let the kids know about it!

So I get in contact with Diana and she puts me right in the circulation of what’s going on with the group.  I get invited to LEEP’s 1st Annual Recognition Event.  Alright.  I’ll check this out and see what LEEP’s all about.

I show up to the library on Saturday afternoon.  There’s some refreshments out on a table.  Somebody in LEEP really likes peanut butter.  I pass on the refreshments because I’m not that big a fan of the PB.  I sit down and wait for the meeting to start.

Chris kicks things off by talking a little about LEEP’s origination and history.  He is joined at the front at times by Ian, as the two of them express their passion for LEEP’s mission and what the future holds for LEEP here in the Lowcountry.

Chris also does some introductions of people that have been an integral part of LEEP’s success.  Those people in attendance are given a certificate and thanked for their support.

There was even a cool video medley of Project WOW (Web of Water) which is an interactive documentary film, aimed at bringing exploration of SC Rivers into classrooms.  Pretty sweet looking concept……the kids look like they’re having a great time interacting with Juliana and learning about our local environment.

As the meeting wraps up, Chris finishes his introductions by congratulating LEEP’s newest board members: Dr. Ivar Frithsen, Barbara Nwokike, Daphne Wright, Calvin Webster, Carol Morris-Coronis, Ginna Waddell, Robert Barber and Chris DeScherer.  We look forward to having all of you on board with LEEP!

Overall, it was an enjoyable first experience with LEEP.  I got a good feeling for the passion of all those involved for what I agree is a great cause.
