LEEP is having a busy and productive April.  We have been enjoying the beautiful weather and learning the lessons nature offers.  Our Executive Director, Ian Sanchez, took a trip to over Easter weekend, experiencing the unique history and beauty of Oconee County.   Lightning storms and torrential rain on Friday gave rise to spectacular views of Whitewater and Issaqueena Falls the following day.  Issaqueena Falls in Oconee County is named for a brave woman.  Issaqueena was a Native American who outfoxed her pursuers by pretending to jump over the waterfall named in her memory and hid on a shelf beneath its curtain of water.  Standing beneath the Issaqueena Falls and imagining this daring act is awe-inspiring.

Spending time in nature also yields discoveries about the plants and animals that surround us.  Did you know the leaves of the Common Dandelion can be made into a tea that helps an upset stomach? The root can be used as diuretic.

Besides getting outdoors, LEEP is meeting with our supporters.  Ian met with Brian from Sandlapper tours to prepare for upcoming programs aboard his boat.  Thank you Brian for providing LEEP students with this educational opportunity.  Ian also met with Jack Mills from Johnson Controls. Johnson Controls has offered to partner with LEEP, offering classes on energy and energy efficiency.

LEEP is working energetically on programs and fundraising, with great success.  The Joanna Foundation just sent a $1,000.00 donation and Reblume contributed $2,100.00 from its fundraising event.  Their generous support makes our programs possible.
