On Wednesday Ian led a group of 5th Graders from James Edwards Elementary school through Bulls Island.  Dolphins pinned fish against the bank in the shallow marsh.
Yesterday LEEP took 36 students from the ALERT program in Richland County District 2 to Folly Beach. Here they learned about the ecosystem as well as team building skills. After the beach the students went on a boat ride through the Charleston Harbor with new ally Sandlapper Tours. After the boat tour we all sat down and discussed the day as all of the students made solar cookers from pizza boxes and heated up a S’mores feast.  They also made a poster that outlined a future sustainable city.  Reduce, Reuse, Recycle was their theme. This is the first of 6 classes coming down to Charleston from the Columbia area within the next few weeks.
We are also preparing our LEEP booth for Earth Day for the event this coming Saturday at Park Circle. We will be planting seeds with the kids at the Earth Day Celebration so they can watch their flowers and veggies grow from seedlings.   The MGAP students will perform their play about saving Energy.  Must see! They will also be playing games as children come through.
This coming Saturday is also LEEP’s last day at Upward Bound. We have asked the Djole group to  perform for this day  as we end our LEEP classes on water at the the College of Charleston. This has been a rewarding and exciting class for LEEP as we have a new partnership with the Upward Bound class and the College of Charleston.
The Web of Water will be shown at the East Coast Kayak Festival at James Island County Park on Sunday April 19th. Also coming up on April 23rd, the Web of Water will be shown on ETV’s Southern Lens at 10pm.
